China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently issued the “Notice on Further Business Resumption of Tourism Enterprises,” which raises the operating capacity of tourism sites from 30% to 50% of permitted capacity. As a result of this policy change, and as overall market conditions continue to rebound, Shanghai Disney Resort is increasing the daily capacity of the resort’s theme park, Shanghai Disneyland, and, effective August 24, 2020, will transition the current Advanced Reservation Period to a new reservation phase, aiming to provide more flexibility for guests to plan and enjoy their park visit. During this new reservation phase, the park will continue to fully comply with regulatory directives on reservations, staggered arrival and applicable capacity controls.

With the increased daily capacity beginning August 24, 2020, Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders and General Admission Ticket holders will be able to visit the park on any eligible day based on the condition of their pass or ticket*. All other guests will be able to purchase park tickets and visit the park on the same day, subject to ticket availability. To comply with regulatory directives, all guests, including Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders and infants under 3 years old or under 1.0 meter in height, will still be required to make a reservation by submitting their visitation date and personal information to obtain a Shanghai Disneyland Reservation QR Code prior to their arrival at the park’s Main Entrance.

What is a Disney Standby Pass?

Disney Standby Pass is an innovative free online reservation tool launched by Shanghai Disney Resort to help guests reserve times to enter the queue line for select attractions. It can help reduce your physical wait time in attraction queues, and significantly enhance your overall park experience.

Disney Standby Passes will only be required from 12pm to 5pm during the park hours. Outside of these hours, Disney Standby Pass will not be required to enter the queue lines of the select attractions. For the time period when Disney Standby pass is applicable, the corresponding attractions are only open to guests who hold either a Disney Standby Pass or Disney Premier Access. Guests can obtain Disney Standby Passes on the official App after entering the park.

Disney Standby Pass will not necessarily be required every day. When attendance is low, Disney Standby Pass will even not be turned on for the entire day. Please check the Official App to see if Disney Standby Passes are required on the day of your visit.

How to use a Disney Standby Pass?

Guests can get a Disney Standby Pass, available on the Shanghai Disney Official App for no extra charge and subject to availability. You can view and select the earliest available time window for a Disney Standby Pass on the App. Each Disney Standby Pass corresponds to a return time window of 60 minutes for you to arrive at the attraction entrance. Upon returning with a Disney Standby Pass, you will need to wait the approximate amount of time posted on the Official App and at the attraction entrance.

Guests who do not have a smart phone or have other difficulties in obtaining Disney Standby Pass may get assistance at Guest Services locations throughout the park.

Step-by-step instructions on how to get and use a Disney Standby Pass:

  • Step 1 – Download the Shanghai Disney Resort Official App before you arrive at the park and create your own account with your mobile phone number or email address.
  • Step 2 – After entering the park, open the Shanghai Disney Resort Official App, sign in and select “Get Standby Pass”, and scan the QR code on your park ticket.
  • Step 3 – Create a party in the App by linking your group member’s park tickets so you can enjoy the attractions together using the same Disney Standby Pass return time. Ensure all members of your party have entered the park.
  • Step 4 – Select the attraction you want to get a Disney Standby Pass for no extra charge.
  • Step 5 – Confirm the selection for your Disney Standby Pass.
  • Step 6 – To redeem, go to the Disney Standby Pass return entrance at the attraction at the designated return time, and then show your QR code, found in “My Plan” on the App or the QR code on your park ticket.

The Main Entrance Guest Services is based just inside the entrance to Shanghai Disneyland. There are also Guest Services located within a short walking distance to all locations that have Disney Standby Pass.
